Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Intl

Mumbai, India

About The Airport

Chhatrapati Shivaji International is India's 2nd busiest airport. It has 2 terminals - T1, which is used only for domestic flights, and the stunning newer T2, which hosts both domestic and international carriers. This terminal's interior features a variety of plants, many of which can be found in the 'vertical gardens'. Construction work started in early 2018 on a new airport, Navi Mumbai, which is expected to ease high passenger traffic at Chhatraparti Shivaji International. T2 was voted the 9th best airport terminal in the world by Skytrax customers in 2018.

Getting to and from the airport

The airport is 20km from Mumbai city center.

Taxi - this is probably the best option to reach downtown Mumbai. You have 2 choices: prepaid taxis, whose counters are in the Arrivals area of each terminal; and metered taxis, which can be hailed outside the terminal buildings. Auto rickshaws are also available outside both terminals.

Bus - local BEST buses connect both terminals with Mumbai destinations. MSRTC and private operators provide longer distance services.

Train - the nearest stations (Vile Parle East and Andheri East) can be reached from the airport by bus, taxi or auto rickshaw.

Car rental - there's just 1 car rental service available at Terminal 1 Arrivals, while Terminal 2 has a choice of 2.

Transit and in-airport hotels

A free bus shuttle operates every 20-30 minutes between the 2 terminals, but the service is only for travelers with a connecting flight. The terminals are 5km apart and the journey can take up to 30 minutes. The entire transfer process may take 2-3 hours.

The Niranta Airport Transit Hotel & Lounge is inside Terminal 2 - guests must have a valid ticket for a flight from that terminal to stay there.

Healthy Travel Tip

Feeling a little apprehensive about flying? Try meeting some of the comfort dogs the Fur Ball Story organisation brings to the airport at weekends. Interacting with the extremely well-trained therapy animals is said to help de-stress travelers before their flights. You can find them in Terminal 2.

We do our best to keep these guides as up-to-date as possible, but cannot guarantee that they fully reflect the current state of every airport, where changes can happen frequently and without notice. Please contact us with any feedback.
