The airport is 15km from downtown Chennai.
Taxi - prepaid taxis are available in the ground transportation area. You must pay for your ride at the Prepaid Taxi booth in the Arrivals hall. Auto rickshaws can also be hired - you may want to bargain for a good price.
Bus - buses run from outside the airport gate to downtown Chennai.
Train - a suburban railway service runs from Tirisulam station, just outside the airport grounds, to Egmore station in Chennai.
Metro - the Chennai Metro runs from the airport to Little Mount. During 2018, the line will be extended into downtown Chennai.
Hotel shuttle - airport shuttles are provided by several nearby hotels, including the Radisson Blu Hotel Chennai and the Quality Inn Airport. Some charge a fee for this service.
Car rental - there are some car rental agencies available at the airport, though it's more usual in India to hire a car with a driver. Some companies here will be able to arrange this for you.
Terminals 1 and 2 are connected by a link building; it's a 20-minute walk from one to the other. Travelers are currently taken between the 2 terminals in golf carts and small coaches, though a moving walkaway is planned.
Flight and gate information is displayed on the monitors in Tamil, Hindi and English.
You may need to wait a little while for the English information to appear; if you’re in a hurry, it’s also possible to check the airport website for the most recent flight information.
