Wellness retreats in Asia-Pacific to exhale in

Across Asia-Pacific (or APAC for short), wellness escapes are increasingly being built into the fabric of city life. Here, restoration happens through smaller rituals, woven naturally into the pace of the urban day: a bathhouse after midnight on your Tokyo holiday, a riverside massage in Bangkok while traffic hums beyond the water, or tea poured slowly in Seoul as neon flashes outside the window.

These cities still move quickly, even when enjoying a holiday in Asia-Pacific. They simply create moments that allow travellers to slow down within them.

Tokyo: calm beneath the neon

Tokyo runs on precision. Trains arrive to the minute, queues form neatly, and even the busiest crossings move with surprising ease. But within that structure there is a quieter side of city life built around ritual and deliberate pause.

Shinrin-yoku or forest bathing may traditionally belong to forests beyond the city, but Tokyo has adapted the philosophy to urban life, too, through mossy gardens, shaded park paths and slower neighbourhoods like Yanaka. Office workers unwind in sento bathhouses after long days, tiny teahouses offer calm between train stops, and even Shinjuku’s lantern-lit alleyways invite unhurried dinners over skewers, steaming broth and cold beer.

Bangkok: the slower side of the city

The scents of grilled garlic, river air and incense drift through Bangkok at almost every hour of the day. Ferries cross the Chao Phraya, cafés spill onto pavements, and entire neighbourhoods seem to operate outdoors. But Bangkok's wellness retreats have also become remarkably good at helping people slow down, whether through herbal steam rooms above cafés, riverside massage terraces overlooking the water or quiet spa courtyards hidden behind busy streets.

In neighbourhoods like Ari and Thonglor, boutique hotels increasingly blend wellness with design through sleep-focused rooms, slower dining experiences and spa spaces built for recovery after long days in the city. Along the river, the atmosphere softens entirely, with temple lights reflecting across the water and hotel terraces filling gradually for long dinners beside the waterfront.

Seoul: rest and recharge

In Seoul, self-care is rarely treated as indulgence. It’s simply part of everyday life. Long workdays and fast-moving neighbourhoods are balanced by rituals that slow the pace back down. When taking a holiday to Seoul, that mindset appears everywhere, in all-night jjimjilbang bathhouses, detailed skincare rituals and cafés where people settle in over coffee rather than grabbing it to go.

In Seongsu and Hannam, former industrial streets now house slower, more contemplative café spaces filled with books, soft lighting and long conversations. Along the Han River, evenings are spent gathered beside the water, with convenience-store snacks, folding chairs and groups lingering long after sunset.

Hong Kong: between skyline and mountaintop

When on holiday in Hong Kong, escaping the city rarely requires leaving it. Before work, locals enjoy hiking trails such as Dragon’s Back and Victoria Peak while the harbour still sits beneath morning mist.

Wellness here often looks active rather than hidden away. Harbour-front running routes, tai chi in public parks, and long tea rituals woven naturally into the day.

Wellness between flights

After days spent navigating neon-lit streets, riverside spas, mountain trails and late-night bathhouses on your Asia-Pacific travel, departing via Singapore Changi Airport offers another opportunity to slow the pace. Relax in one of the exclusive Priority Pass lounges to enjoy quieter moments between flights, with spaces to dine, recharge and reset before continuing your journey across the region.
